What is Alaska Companion Fare?
Alaska Companion Fare is a unique benefit offered to eligible holders of the Alaska Airlines credit cards. It allows cardholders to purchase a companion ticket at a significantly reduced price when they buy a regular-priced ticket.
There are certain conditions for obtaining a Companion Fare for Alaska Airlines Visa Signature credit card: new cardholders must spend at least $6,000 annually to receive the Companion Fare on their card anniversary. Alaska Airlines Visa Business Cardholders receive this benefit automatically upon card renewal.
Who Gets It and How

Alaska Airlines Visa cardholders who opened their account before January 18, 2023 continue to receive the Companion Fare benefit automatically each year. In contrast, those who apply on or after that date must spend $6,000 annually to qualify for the benefit on their next cardmember anniversary.
New cardholders can also receive a Companion Fare as part of the welcome bonus, which currently includes 60,000 bonus miles and a Companion Fare (base fare of $99 plus taxes starting at $23) after spending $3,000 within 90 days of account opening. Additionally, new applicants are eligible for a 30% discount code toward a future qualifying flight.

New cardholders get 60,000 bonus miles and Alaska’s Famous Companion Fare ($99 fare plus taxes and fees from $23) after you make $4,000 or more in purchases within the first 90 days of opening your account.
How Does it Work Alaska Companion Fare?
1. Purchase One, Get One for a Discount: When a cardholder buys one round-trip coach ticket, they can get a companion ticket for as low as $122 (USD) – which breaks down as $99 base fare plus applicable taxes and fees which can start from $23. Both tickets must be on the same itinerary and booked at the same time.
2. Booking Process: The travel booking must be done at AlaskaAir.com, enter the code in the appropriate field. Payment should be made using the eligible Alaska Airlines credit card.
In the results, you will see two prices for each flight: the first amount is the regular price for the main passenger, and the second is the discounted price for the companion.
3. Earning Miles: Although you cannot use miles to pay for an accompanying person’s ticket, both the main passenger and the accompanying person can earn miles and elite points for the trip and are eligible for service upgrades (e.g., guest or elite passenger upgrades).
4. Fees & Taxes: All travelers are responsible for the applicable taxes, fees, surcharges, and any checked baggage fees.
5. Restrictions: The companion fare discount code cannot be used for award travel or combined with other discounts. Some cardholders might also have an annual spending requirement to access this benefit.
Update: Usable on Hawaiian Airlines (Summer 2025)
The merger between Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines has expanded travel possibilities, with the Alaska Companion Fare now unlocking broader coverage and access to more destinations than ever before.
- Starting summer 2025, the companion fare can also be used on Hawaiian Airlines-operated flights within North America (including interisland routes).
- This opens up more options for trips to/from Hawaii, with the same $99+tax fare limit.
