SkyTeam Elite Plus sounds like it should open every Delta Sky Club door in the US. It doesn’t — and there’s a catch inside the catch: if your Elite Plus status came from Delta itself, you actually have a stricter rule to clear than someone who earned the identical status through Air France-KLM or Korean Air.
What SkyTeam Elite Plus Actually Is
SkyTeam Elite Plus is the alliance’s top recognition tier, one step above base SkyTeam Elite. It comes bundled with:
| Program | Tiers That Carry Elite Plus |
|---|---|
| Delta SkyMiles | Gold, Platinum, and Diamond Medallion (Silver Medallion is Elite only — no lounge access) |
| Air France-KLM Flying Blue | Gold and Platinum (and Ultimate, which sits above Platinum) |
| Korean Air SKYPASS | Morning Calm Premium and Million Miler |
| Other SkyTeam carriers | China Eastern, Vietnam Airlines, Saudia, Garuda Indonesia, and others each have an equivalent top tier |
The Rule: International Only — With a Cabin Catch for Delta’s Own Elites

Delta Sky Club access for SkyTeam Elite Plus is restricted to same-day international SkyTeam itineraries — purely domestic Delta flights don’t qualify, full stop, no matter which program issued your status. US–Caribbean routes don’t count as international for this purpose either.
Where it gets specific: Delta Medallion-earned Elite Plus (Gold, Platinum, Diamond) only unlocks Sky Club access when flying international in Delta One or Delta Premium Select — economy doesn’t qualify, even for Diamond Medallion. Partner-earned Elite Plus — Flying Blue Platinum, Korean Air Morning Calm Premium, and the rest — gets in on an international SkyTeam itinerary in any cabin, including economy. Delta’s own policy page states the cabin requirement applies specifically to SkyMiles members, not to partner-earned status.
| Elite Plus Source | Domestic Delta Flight | International SkyTeam Flight |
|---|---|---|
| Delta Medallion (Gold/Platinum/Diamond) | No access | Access only in Delta One or Delta Premium Select |
| Flying Blue Gold/Platinum, Korean Air, other partners | No access | Access in any cabin, including economy |
That’s the same pattern we found with United and Star Alliance Gold: the home airline’s own top-tier elites end up with a tighter rule than travelers carrying the equivalent status from a partner program.
Bringing a Guest
Elite Plus members can bring one guest, but as of an alliance-wide tightening on April 1, 2025, that guest must be ticketed on the same SkyTeam-operated flight as the member — the older, looser rule that let you bring anyone with any SkyTeam boarding pass is gone.
What About SkyTeam Partner Lounges in the US?
A few SkyTeam partners operate their own branded lounges on US soil — an Air France Lounge and Korean Air lounge at JFK Terminal 1, and a newer Air France Lounge at LAX Terminal 3. Unlike some Star Alliance partner lounges that work for Gold status on a purely domestic United flight, none of these open up for SkyTeam Elite Plus on a domestic-only Delta itinerary — they’re gated the same way Delta’s own Sky Clubs are: premium cabin or elite status on an international flight on that specific carrier. There’s no equivalent domestic workaround in the SkyTeam system inside the US.
Can a Credit Card Get You SkyTeam Elite Plus Access?
No credit card grants actual SkyTeam Elite Plus status just for having it in your wallet. What cards give instead is a separate, card-based Sky Club benefit that works nothing like real Elite Plus access — and conflating the two is an easy mistake.
| Card | What It Actually Gives You |
|---|---|
| Delta SkyMiles Reserve / Reserve Business | 15 Sky Club visits per Medallion Year (unlimited at $75K+ annual card spend), only when flying Delta or a partner same-day — not SkyTeam Elite Plus status |
| Delta SkyMiles Platinum | Sky Club access only when flying Delta/partner same-day, capped visits |
| Delta SkyMiles Gold | No Sky Club access at all |
| American Express Platinum (non-co-branded) | 10 Sky Club visit-days/year when flying Delta/partner same-day (unlimited at $75K+ spend); no Medallion or SkyTeam status attached |
The practical differences matter: card-based access is capped by visit count, tied to flying Delta or a partner that same day, and carries no reciprocal access to SkyTeam partner lounges abroad the way genuine Elite Plus status does. A Delta Reserve cardholder who isn’t a Medallion member can still walk into a Sky Club before a domestic flight — something actual SkyTeam Elite Plus from Medallion status alone can’t do, per the international-only rule above — but that same cardholder gets nothing at an Air France or Korean Air lounge overseas.
What the Reserve and Platinum Delta cards can do is help you reach actual Medallion status faster: Delta Platinum and Reserve cards include MQD Headstart, an automatic $2,500 MQD deposit each Medallion Year with no spend required (capped around $10,000 total across up to 4 cards), plus MQD Boost from ongoing card spend. That accelerates qualification — but $2,500 alone doesn’t reach even Silver Medallion (5,000 MQDs needed), so a card still can’t substitute for actually flying your way to status.
Recent Changes Worth Knowing
- February 2025: Delta tightened Sky Club access broadly, capping Amex Platinum and Delta Reserve cardholder visits at 15/year unless they hit $75K in card spend for unlimited access.
- April 2025: SkyTeam introduced limited domestic lounge access for Elite Plus members for the first time — but explicitly excluded Delta’s own network. The expansion applies only at select partner lounges abroad (Air France, Garuda, Kenya Airways, China Eastern, SAS, Saudia, Vietnam Airlines domestic routes), not inside the US.
The Bottom Line
If you’re holding SkyTeam Elite Plus and flying domestically within the US, no version of that status gets you into a Delta Sky Club — that part is simple. On international SkyTeam itineraries, check which program issued your status before assuming you’re covered: Delta Platinum or Diamond Medallion holders need Delta One or Premium Select, while the same Elite Plus tier earned through Flying Blue or Korean Air gets in from economy.
Frequently Asked Questions
No. Delta Sky Club access for SkyTeam Elite Plus is restricted to same-day international SkyTeam itineraries, regardless of which program issued the status. A purely domestic Delta flight doesn’t qualify. Not quite. Delta Medallion-earned SkyTeam Elite Plus (Gold, Platinum, Diamond) only gets Sky Club access on international flights in Delta One or Delta Premium Select. Elite Plus earned through a partner program like Flying Blue or Korean Air gets access on an international SkyTeam itinerary in any cabin, including economy. Gold, Platinum, and Diamond Medallion all carry SkyTeam Elite Plus. Silver Medallion only carries base SkyTeam Elite, which does not include lounge access. Yes, one guest, but as of April 1, 2025, the guest must be ticketed on the same SkyTeam-operated flight as the Elite Plus member. No. Partner-operated lounges such as the Air France and Korean Air lounges at JFK, or the Air France Lounge at LAX, require premium cabin travel or elite status on an international flight with that specific carrier. There’s no domestic-flight workaround for SkyTeam Elite Plus inside the US. Yes. Delta's policy is based on your whole same-day itinerary, not the specific airport. A domestic Delta flight connecting into an international SkyTeam flight qualifies for Sky Club access at the domestic departure airport too. The one limit: this covers departure and transfer airports only, not your final stop after landing from an international flight. No card grants actual SkyTeam Elite Plus status. Delta SkyMiles Reserve and Platinum, along with American Express Platinum, instead give a separate card-based Sky Club benefit — capped visits, only when flying Delta or a partner same-day, with no reciprocal access to SkyTeam partner lounges abroad. Delta Platinum and Reserve cards do include MQD Headstart, which deposits $2,500 in Medallion Qualification Dollars automatically each year toward real status, but that alone doesn't reach even Silver Medallion. Can SkyTeam Elite Plus members access Delta Sky Clubs on a domestic flight?
