JetBlue’s same-day flight change program lets eligible travelers move to an earlier or later flight on the same day of travel without paying a fare difference. Most Blue, Blue Plus, EvenMore, and Mint fares can use a Same-Day Switch or Same-Day Standby for a $75 fee, while Blue Extra includes both benefits at no extra cost. Mosaic members receive complimentary same-day switches and standby, and even Mosaic travelers booked on Blue Basic remain eligible for these benefits. Availability depends on open seats and the request must be made within JetBlue’s same-day change window.

If your plans change at the last minute, a same-day flight change can be much cheaper and easier than rebooking your ticket. Instead of paying a potentially higher airfare, you may be able to switch to an earlier or later JetBlue flight for a fixed fee — or no fee at all if you purchased Blue Extra or have Mosaic status.

There are, however, a few important rules to understand. Not every fare is eligible, a confirmed Same-Day Switch works differently from Same-Day Standby, and the booking window depends on your fare and elite status. In this guide, we’ll explain exactly how the JetBlue same-day flight change policy works, which fares qualify, how much it costs, and when Mosaic members receive additional flexibility.

What Is a JetBlue Same-Day Flight Change?

A same-day flight change lets you move to another JetBlue flight departing on the same calendar day as your original itinerary without making a traditional reservation change.

JetBlue offers two options:

  • Same-Day Switch (confirmed change) lets you move immediately to another available flight if an eligible seat is open.
  • Same-Day Standby allows you to wait for an available seat if a confirmed change isn’t available. If a seat opens before departure, you’ll be assigned it. If not, you’ll keep your original confirmed reservation.

Same-Day Switch vs. Same-Day Standby

Although these options are often mentioned together, they work differently.

Same-Day Switch vs. Same-Day Standby

A confirmed switch is naturally the better option because you’ll know immediately which flight you’re taking. Standby is useful when an earlier or later flight appears full but may still have empty seats by departure.

Please note that:

  • a same-day switch can be made beginning at midnight in the time zone of your departing flight and is only available on the same calendar day as your originally scheduled flight.
  • if you are traveling to or from one of the regions (listed in the rules; see the screenshot below), you can rebook your flight to the nearest airport.

Which JetBlue Fares Are Eligible?

This is where many travelers get confused.

Eligibility depends primarily on the fare you purchased.

Blue, Blue Plus, EvenMore and Mint

These fares qualify for same-day flight changes.

If you aren’t a Mosaic member, you’ll generally pay a $75 same-day switch fee or $75 standby fee.

Blue, Blue Plus, EvenMore and Mint tickets also have no standard change fees outside the same-day program, although any fare difference still applies when making regular itinerary changes.

Example. You booked a Blue fare from New York (JFK) to Fort Lauderdale departing at 5:00 PM. At noon on the day of travel, you notice a 2:30 PM flight has open seats. You can request a same-day switch and, if eligible, move to that flight by paying the applicable $75 fee (unless your fee is waived).

Blue Extra

Blue Extra is JetBlue’s most flexible standard economy fare.

One of its biggest advantages is that same-day switches and same-day standby are included at no additional charge.

For frequent business travelers who often change plans at the last minute, Blue Extra can easily justify its higher fare.

Blue Basic

Blue Basic is JetBlue’s most restrictive fare.

Current rules state that same-day switches and standby are not available for Blue Basic tickets. Blue Basic also has additional restrictions on changes and cancellations compared with other fare types.

This represents one of the biggest trade-offs for booking JetBlue’s cheapest fare.

How Mosaic Members Benefit

Mosaic status significantly improves JetBlue’s same-day flexibility.

Mosaic members receive:

  • complimentary same-day switches
  • complimentary same-day standby
  • no $75 same-day fee

These benefits can be especially valuable for travelers who frequently fly between cities served by multiple daily JetBlue departures, such as New York, Boston, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, or Los Angeles.

Example. Suppose you’re flying from Boston to Fort Lauderdale. Your meeting ends four hours earlier than expected. Instead of waiting all afternoon, you open the JetBlue app and switch to an earlier departure. If you’re a Mosaic member, there is no same-day switch fee.

When Can You Request a Same-Day Flight Change?

JetBlue’s same-day options become available within 24 hours before your scheduled departure. Requests can usually be made through:

  • the JetBlue app,
  • Manage Trips on JetBlue.com,
  • or with a JetBlue airport representative.

Unlike a regular itinerary change, a same-day switch doesn’t require purchasing a new ticket.

How to Change a Flight?

Go to the JetBlue website and log in. In the “Manage Trips” section of your JetBlue account, you can view all your upcoming flights. Find the upcoming trip you want to change and click “Trip Details.” Next, select the “Change” option.

What Happens With Standby?

Standby works differently from a confirmed switch. If your requested flight is full, JetBlue may place you on the standby list.

Your original reservation remains confirmed until:

  • a seat becomes available, or
  • boarding is complete for the standby flight.

If you aren’t cleared from standby, you’ll simply travel on your originally booked flight.

For travelers hoping to leave earlier without risking their existing itinerary, standby offers a useful safety net.

Same-Day Change vs. Regular Flight Change

Many travelers confuse these two policies.

A regular flight change can be made days or weeks before departure. For most JetBlue fares, there are no change fees, but you’ll pay any increase in airfare.

A JetBlue same day flight change happens within 24 hours of departure and allows you to move to another flight that day for a fixed same-day fee — or free if you’re eligible through Blue Extra or Mosaic.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is a JetBlue same-day flight change?

For eligible fares, the fee is $75 per passenger for either a confirmed same-day switch or same-day standby. Blue Extra and Mosaic members receive these benefits free of charge.

Does Blue Basic allow same-day flight changes?

No. Blue Basic tickets are generally not eligible for same-day switches or same-day standby under JetBlue’s current fare rules.

Is standby free on JetBlue?

Standby is complimentary for Blue Extra travelers and Mosaic members. Other eligible fares pay the standard $75 same-day standby fee.

Can Mosaic members switch to an earlier flight for free?

Yes. Mosaic members receive complimentary same-day switches and same-day standby on eligible JetBlue-operated flights.

Bottom Line

The JetBlue same-day flight change program offers valuable flexibility, especially for travelers whose schedules change at the last minute. Whether you choose a confirmed same-day switch or standby, the ability to move to another flight can save hours of waiting at the airport.

The best value comes with Blue Extra fares and Mosaic status, both of which waive the standard $75 same-day switch and standby fee. Travelers booking Blue Basic, on the other hand, should be aware that they generally won’t have access to these same-day travel options.

Before heading to the airport, check availability in the JetBlue app or on the Manage Trips page. If an earlier or later flight better fits your schedule, a same-day switch could make your travel day much smoother.
