IHG also makes clear that:
- you must register first,
- stays must be booked on a qualifying rate,
- OTA bookings like Expedia or Booking.com do not qualify,
- Reward Nights and Points & Cash stays do not qualify,
- and the bonus points from this promo are not elite-status qualifying.
Is this promo actually good?
Typically, IHG program members earn 10 points per dollar at most hotels in the chain and 5 points per dollar at Staybridge Suites and Candlewood Suites. This promotion is structured so that your base points plus the bonus points from the promotion equal three times the usual base earnings. That is, for a $100 one-night stay at a hotel where you earn 10 points per dollar, you’ll receive 1,000 base points plus 2,000 bonus points from the promotion, totaling 3,000 points just from the promotion.This offer is simple, takes effect immediately, and can be added to the points you already earn through your elite status and IHG credit card payments.
Bottom line
The IHG 3X promotion is worth attention if you have a qualifying international stay coming up soon. It is easy to understand, offers a real bonus, and can meaningfully improve the return on a paid booking. But it is also one of those offers that looks more exciting in a headline than in everyday use.
