Flying is only one of the many ways to earn Aeroplan points. Many members rack up thousands of points a year from things they were doing anyway — booking a hotel, renting a car, ordering dinner through Uber Eats, grabbing coffee at Starbucks, or shopping through the Aeroplan eStore. How much you earn on each one depends on three things: the partner’s own rate, whether you book through the Aeroplan portal or go direct to the partner, and whether you’re paying with an Aeroplan co-branded credit card. Here’s exactly how each path works, and how to stack them.
How Aeroplan Partner Earning Works
Most Aeroplan partners follow the same basic process:
- Link your Aeroplan account (if required).
- Start your booking or purchase through the partner’s designated channel.
- Complete an eligible transaction.
- Aeroplan points are deposited into your account after the purchase is completed.
Some partners require you to enter your Aeroplan number during checkout, while others require your accounts to be linked before you make a purchase. Missing one of these steps often means missing out on points.
How many points you get on top of that depends on three stacked layers.
The first is the partner’s own rate — what Marriott, Avis, or the eStore pays per dollar spent, independent of anything else.
The second is the booking path: the same hotel or car rental can earn differently depending on whether you book through the Aeroplan travel portal or go directly to the partner.
The third is your credit card — paying with an Aeroplan co-branded card doesn’t change the partner’s rate, but it adds its own category bonus on top, since these purchases are usually coded as “travel,” “gas,” or “other” rather than “Air Canada” spending.
Aeroplan Elite Status cuts across all three layers, typically adding a flat bonus per dollar (for example, 3 extra points per dollar on portal cash bookings, or 2 extra points per dollar at the eStore) regardless of which partner or card is involved.
Earning Aeroplan Points on Hotels
The Aeroplan Hotel Portal
The Aeroplan hotel portal (a white-label booking engine powered by cxLoyalty) gives you access to more than 300,000 properties worldwide, with the option to pay in cash, points, or a 50/50 mix of points and cash.
The one earning rate Aeroplan publishes for this channel is the Elite Status bonus: an additional 3 points per dollar on full cash bookings. Aeroplan doesn’t publish a separate flat rate for non-elite members beyond this, so don’t assume a specific multiplier without checking the rate shown at checkout for your booking.
As with car rentals, expect points to be calculated on the room rate only — taxes, resort fees, and service charges typically aren’t included.
Earning Aeroplan Points Directly With Hotel Brand Partners
Several major hotel chains let you earn Aeroplan points directly, instead of the hotel’s own currency, when you book directly and set your earning preference accordingly.
According to Aeroplan’s own partners directory, the current list looks like this:

Note that Accor Live Limitless (ALL) isn’t on this direct-earn list — Aeroplan’s partner page shows Accor as a conversion-only partnership (see the transfer table below), not a way to earn Aeroplan points directly at checkout. Le Germain and Omni Hotels are also Aeroplan partners, but strictly for redeeming points, not earning them.
The Hyatt partnership is brand new as of July 15, 2026, and it’s worth a closer look. Beyond the flat 500-point-per-stay earn rate, premium Aeroplan credit cardholders get an extra 2 World of Hyatt points and 2 Aeroplan points per C$1 spent at Hyatt properties. Aeroplan Elite members can also fast-track Hyatt status — Discoverist requires 4 qualifying nights within 90 days, Explorist requires 10 nights, and Globalist requires 20 — and premium cardholders receive complimentary Discoverist status plus 5 elite-qualifying nights a year. World of Hyatt elite members who link accounts get a C$20 Air Canada flight credit as a welcome perk.
HotelSavers and the 4th Night Free Benefit
It’s worth being clear that Aeroplan HotelSavers is not an earning program — it’s a redemption discount. It uses the same cxLoyalty booking engine but applies up to 30% fewer points at select partner hotels compared to a standard cash-equivalent redemption, across an 8-category pricing structure ranging from roughly 10,000 points per night at Category 1 properties to 75,000–105,000 points per night at Category 8.
You don’t earn points on a points-only HotelSavers booking, but if you pay cash or use the 50/50 option, the cash portion still earns at the standard portal rate.
If you hold an Aeroplan co-branded credit card, there’s a related redemption perk worth knowing: 4th Night Free.
It applies only to hotel bookings paid entirely in Aeroplan points — not cash, and not a 50/50 combination — and requires enough points to cover at least 3 nights at your chosen property. For every 4 consecutive nights, one is free: book 4 nights and pay for 3, book 8 nights and pay for 6. All nights must be at the same hotel in a single reservation, the offer can’t be combined with other promotions, and it currently runs through December 31, 2026, unless extended. This is a redemption benefit, not a way to earn extra points — it just makes your points go further when you’re paying with points.
Converting Hotel Points to Aeroplan
If you’re already sitting on hotel points, several programs let you transfer them into your Aeroplan account:

As a general rule, you’ll get more value redeeming hotel points for hotel stays than converting them to Aeroplan — treat these transfers as a last resort for topping off an Aeroplan balance for a flight redemption, not a primary earning strategy.
Earning Aeroplan Points on Car Rentals
Car rentals work similarly to hotels: there’s a standing partnership with Avis, Budget, and Payless, and a newer, richer partnership with Hertz, Dollar, and Thrifty.

A few details matter here.
First, points on both partnerships are calculated on time-and-mileage charges only — taxes, fees, and surcharges don’t earn points.
Second, the Hertz partnership (launched May 6, 2026) comes with complimentary Hertz Gold Plus Rewards status: Five Star status for Elite 25K–50K members and Core cardholders, and President’s Circle status for Elite 75K, Super Elite, and Premium cardholders. Members also earn 1 Status Qualifying Credit toward Aeroplan Elite Status for every 5 Aeroplan points earned on a Hertz rental.
You can also book a car rental through the Aeroplan travel portal using cash or a 50/50 points-and-cash combination, in which case Elite Status members earn the same additional 3 points per dollar that applies to portal hotel bookings. If you’re renting directly from Avis, Budget, or Hertz, just add your Aeroplan number at the time of booking (or at the counter for walk-up rentals) to make sure the points land in your account.
The Aeroplan eStore: Turning Everyday Shopping Into Points
The Aeroplan eStore is an online shopping portal that pays points on purchases you were probably going to make anyway. Baseline earning starts around 1 point per dollar, but individual retailers set their own rates — some as low as fractions of a point per dollar on premium electronics, others running 5x to 10x during promotional periods, including a well-known Amazon event that has offered up to 10x points.
To earn points, start your shopping session by clicking through from the eStore (or its browser extension for Chrome, Firefox, and Edge) while logged in with your Aeroplan number, and complete your purchase in that same browsing session.
A few categories are excluded from earning altogether, including gift cards, gift wrap, taxes, shipping, and certain high-end electronics like MacBook Pros. Points typically take six to ten weeks to post, since retailers hold earnings back until the return window closes.
This is where credit card stacking becomes meaningful: on top of the eStore’s base and promotional rate, Aeroplan premium credit cards add an extra 1.25 points per dollar, core cards add an extra 1 point per dollar, and Aeroplan Elite Status adds an extra 2 points per dollar — all three can apply on the same purchase.
Aeroplan Everyday Partners
Beyond travel, Aeroplan has built out a set of “everyday” partners that let you earn points on spending you’d do regardless of any trip.

The Uber partnership also includes onboarding bonuses worth watching for: 1,000 points for your first eligible ride, 1,000 points for your first Uber Eats order, and 250 points a month for completing the “Uber Hat Trick” — one ride, one delivery, and one grocery or retail order in the same month.
How Co-Branded Credit Cards Change Point Accrual
Your Aeroplan credit card doesn’t replace a partner’s earning rate — it adds to it, at whatever category rate applies to that purchase. Since hotels, car rentals, and eStore purchases usually aren’t coded as “Air Canada” spending, they typically earn at your card’s travel, gas/grocery, dining, or general “other” rate instead. In practice, that means a hotel stay booked through the Aeroplan portal and paid with an Amex Aeroplan Reserve card earns the portal’s cash-booking rate, plus 1.25 points per dollar from the card’s “other travel” category — and Elite Status members add their own bonus on top of that. Premium cards also unlock category-specific bonuses that core and entry-level cards don’t get, like the eStore’s extra 1.25 points per dollar or Hyatt’s extra 2 Aeroplan points per C$1.
U.S. Cardholders: The Chase Aeroplan Card
Aeroplan also has a U.S.-issued, Chase-branded card, and it stacks differently than the Canadian TD and Amex cards above.

Chase offers a single Aeroplan card tier — there’s no premium or Reserve version — plus a monthly spending bonus of 500 points for every $2,000 spent, capped at 1,500 bonus points a month.
Unlike the Amex Aeroplan Reserve, the Chase card doesn’t elevate hotels or car rentals into a bonus “other travel” category — a U.S. cardholder booking through the Aeroplan portal or renting from Avis or Hertz only adds the card’s base 1 point per dollar on top of the partner rate, so the card-side lift is smaller than what Canadian premium cardholders get. Where the Chase card pulls ahead is dining and groceries at a flat 3 points per dollar, a rate none of the Canadian cards match at the entry or core level.
It’s also worth flagging that several of the everyday partners above are tied to Canada specifically: LCBO, Journie Rewards, and Chexy are Canadian businesses, and Uber’s bonus tiers apply to Canadian rides. U.S.-based Aeroplan members can still earn through these, but mainly while traveling in Canada — they aren’t a U.S. equivalent to everyday spending. The eStore and the hotel/car rental portal, by contrast, are tied to the Aeroplan account itself rather than residency, so those work the same way regardless of where the cardholder lives.
Understanding Aeroplan’s “Double Points” and Bonus Promotions
Aeroplan and its partners regularly run limited-time bonus promotions — often marketed as “double points” or “up to Nx points” — on the eStore, with Avis and Budget, and around new partnership launches. A few rules tend to hold across most of these promotions:
- Registration is often required. Many bonus offers need a one-time sign-up before you book or shop; points won’t post retroactively if you skip this step.
- Only new, qualifying purchases count. Modified or previously booked reservations typically don’t qualify, and certain rate types (prepaid, free/tour rates, or specific fare classes) are commonly excluded.
- Bonus points post separately, and later, than base points. It’s normal to wait four to ten weeks for bonus points to land, depending on the partner.
- Taxes, fees, and surcharges are usually excluded from the spend that bonus points are calculated on.
- Promotions usually can’t be combined with each other. A bonus-points offer and a separate discount code, for instance, typically won’t both apply to the same booking.

- Compare the portal rate against the direct-partner rate before booking a hotel or car rental — whichever pays more (or offers status perks, like Hertz’s Gold Plus tiers) usually wins.
- Start every online purchase through the eStore or its browser extension, even for small purchases, since points add up and cost nothing extra.
- Pay with your Aeroplan credit card everywhere partner points are also being earned, so you’re stacking two point sources on a single purchase.
- Link Uber, Starbucks, and Journie Rewards accounts once, so you never miss points on spending you’d do anyway.
- Watch for new partnership launches — like Hertz in May 2026 and Hyatt in July 2026 — since introductory promotions around launches tend to offer above-average earning.
