Radisson Rewards runs three status tiers outside the Americas: Club, Premium, and VIP. Club is automatic the moment you sign up, Premium takes 5 nights or 3 stays in a year, and VIP takes 30 nights or 20 stays. Each tier raises your points-earning multiplier and adds a specific set of perks, from room upgrades to free breakfast.

Club, Premium, VIP: The Requirements

Stays and nights are tracked on a rolling 12-month basis rather than a fixed calendar year, and status carries through the following 12 months once earned. Radisson’s points are worth less per point than most hotel currencies, which is part of why the multipliers look so high compared to programs like Marriott or Hilton.

Where You’ll Actually Find Radisson Hotels

This program covers roughly 550+ hotels across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia-Pacific, under eight brands: Radisson Blu, Radisson RED, Radisson, Radisson Collection, Park Plaza, Park Inn, Country Inn & Suites, and art’otel. Coverage isn’t even across that footprint. Radisson is especially strong in Scandinavia and Germany, where Radisson Blu in particular has a long-established presence, and thinner in North America and parts of Asia compared to brands like Marriott or Hilton.

That regional concentration matters when deciding whether to chase status at all: if your travel rarely takes you through Northern Europe, the Middle East, or the specific markets Radisson Collection and Park Plaza serve, the nights needed for Premium or VIP may simply never come up naturally.

What Each Tier Actually Gets You

Club

Every enrolled member starts here, with no stays required. Club includes member-only rates, a 10% discount on food and beverage at participating hotels, and priority check-in and checkout lines.

Premium

Premium adds a complimentary room upgrade to the next category when one is available (suites only at select properties), early check-in and late checkout of up to two hours each, subject to availability, and access to a dedicated Premium/VIP contact line. It also unlocks Discount Booster, a feature that trades some of the points multiplier for an upfront cash discount on the room rate.

VIP

VIP is built for members who stay often. On top of everything Premium includes, VIP raises the food and beverage discount to 15%, adds free breakfast for two daily, and upgrades the room benefit to the best available category at check-in, not just the next one up. VIP members also get access to exclusive areas at select hotels.

Discount Booster: Trading Points for a Cash Discount

Premium and VIP members can switch their earning rate to Discount Booster instead of the standard multiplier.

• At Premium, that means earning 9x points per $1 instead of 27x, but getting an immediate percentage off the room rate at booking.
• At VIP, the swap runs 36x down to 12x for the same kind of upfront discount.

It’s a straightforward tradeoff: take the points now at a lower rate, or bank the higher multiplier and pay full price.

How Redemption Actually Works

Radisson doesn’t use a fixed award chart the way Marriott or Hilton do. Instead, pricing is tied directly to the cash rate of the room, and you choose how much of the bill to cover with points at checkout. Two options show up on most bookings: redeem points to cover the entire stay, or redeem a smaller number of points for a percentage discount off the cash price, similar to a points-plus-cash structure. Points-plus-cash bookings typically start around 5,000 points per night alongside a reduced cash rate.

Because pricing is dynamic, you won’t see the exact points cost until you’re deep into the booking flow, and it changes with the cash rate the way an airline’s dynamic pricing does. There’s no way to look up a fixed “category 1 through 8” chart in advance the way you can at most other hotel programs.

What Are Radisson Points Worth?

Value depends heavily on how much of the room rate you pay with points. Covering the entire cost with points tends to land around 0.3 to 0.4 cents per point, with the occasional redemption topping 0.5 cents on a high cash rate. Using fewer points for a smaller discount lowers the per-point value, sometimes down to around 0.15 to 0.2 cents. As a rough rule, the more of the bill you’re willing to put on points, the better the rate you get for each one.

Do Radisson Points Expire?

Yes, after 24 months of complete inactivity on the account. Any earning or redemption activity resets that 24-month clock, so you don’t need to stay at a Radisson property specifically to keep points alive. Even a small points purchase or a redemption on an unrelated booking is enough to restart the countdown.

Can You Use Points to Upgrade a Room?

Not on a booking you’ve already made. Radisson doesn’t offer a points-based upgrade on an existing reservation the way some airlines let you bid or pay for a seat upgrade. If you want a higher room category, you book that category directly, whether with cash or points, from the start. The complimentary elite upgrades covered in the tier breakdown above are the only way a room category changes after booking, and those are availability-based, not something points can force.

Free Status Through Credit Cards

• Platinum Card from American Express includes complimentary Radisson Rewards Premium status for as long as you hold the card, activated once through your Amex benefits page. That’s the 5-night qualification skipped entirely from your first stay.
• Capital on Tap Pro, a UK business card, has offered complimentary VIP status as a cardholder perk. Availability and terms change, so confirm current card benefits before counting on it.

There’s no dedicated Radisson-branded credit card in the U.S., and Radisson Rewards isn’t an American Express Membership Rewards transfer partner for U.S. cardholders the way it is in the U.K. For most American members, complimentary Premium status through the Amex Platinum and points earned from actual stays are the two realistic ways into this program.

Transferring Points to Airline Miles

Radisson points can move to a handful of airline programs, though the rates are generally weak enough that it’s rarely the best use of a points balance:

Given how thin all three ratios are, transferring out generally makes sense only if you have a small, otherwise-unusable Radisson balance and a specific mileage redemption already in mind.

Is VIP Worth Chasing?

For most travelers, no. Thirty nights or twenty stays in a year is a heavy bar, and the jump from Premium to VIP mostly buys a bigger room-upgrade guarantee, free breakfast, and a 5-point bump in the food discount. If you’re already flying past 30 nights a year at Radisson Group properties, VIP is worth claiming since you’ll hit it anyway. If you’re not, Premium is the more realistic target, especially since it’s free with an Amex Platinum you might already carry for other reasons.
