Qatar Airways Privilege Club is introducing new restrictions on who members can book award flights for using Avios. The change affects one of the program’s most flexible features and may require members to plan redemptions further in advance than before.
Until now, Privilege Club members could generally redeem Avios for anyone, provided they had the traveler’s personal information. Beginning in June 2026, Qatar Airways is moving to a more controlled system that limits award bookings to pre-approved individuals.
What Is Changing?
Qatar Airways has introduced a new feature called My List.
Under the new rules, members can create a list of up to four adult Privilege Club members for whom they can redeem Avios for award flights. Those individuals must have their own Privilege Club accounts and must accept an invitation before they can be added to the list. Once added, they must remain on the list for at least six months.
The airline’s existing Family & Friends feature remains available. This program allows members to add up to six individuals to a family group and pool Avios into a single account. However, Family & Friends and My List operate separately and have different eligibility requirements.

How Many People Can You Book For?
Under the new structure, a Privilege Club member can generally redeem Avios for:
- Up to six (6) people in a Family & Friends group
- Up to four (4) people on My List
That effectively limits redemptions to a maximum of ten pre-approved individuals. Travelers outside those groups will no longer be eligible for award bookings using your Avios.
What Does This Mean for Avios Collectors?
For most travelers who primarily redeem Avios for immediate family members, the change may have little impact.
However, members who frequently book award flights for extended family, friends, clients, or last-minute travel companions will lose a significant amount of flexibility. Going forward, those travelers will need to ensure that intended passengers have been added to the appropriate list before attempting to make a redemption.
The new rules may also encourage some Avios collectors to transfer their Avios to other programs within the Avios ecosystem, such as British Airways Club, when booking awards for travelers outside their approved groups. Since Avios can generally be moved between participating Avios programs, members may still have alternative redemption options available.
Bottom Line
Qatar Airways Privilege Club is tightening control over who members can book award flights for with Avios. The new My List feature limits award bookings to a small group of pre-approved travelers, while the existing Family & Friends program remains available for family pooling.
For most families, the changes are unlikely to cause major problems. For travelers who regularly redeem Avios for a wide range of friends and relatives, however, the program has become noticeably less flexible than it was before.
