The Rule, Region by Region

Marriott’s Loyalty Program Terms and Conditions spell out the split by geography, not by property type or rate paid:

What Changed, and When

Before this update, Series by Marriott (along with a handful of other limited-service brands) ran on an older, stingier formula: one Elite Night Credit for every two nights stayed. A single one-night stay earned nothing at all toward status.

Marriott’s updated terms, which took effect June 24, 2026, replaced that with a flat 0.5 credit for every qualifying night, then layered the regional exception on top for properties in the U.S., Canada, and Greater China, where the rate doubles to a full 1 credit per night. In practice, that means even a single one-night stay now earns something everywhere, and a full credit in Series’ core U.S. markets.

Series Isn’t Alone at the 0.5 Rate

The 0.5-credit baseline isn’t unique to Series. City Express by Marriott, Four Points Flex by Sheraton, and Protea Hotels by Marriott all earn Elite Night Credit at the same reduced rate. What sets Series apart is the regional carve-out: since Series has real U.S. presence (it launched domestically with a run of FOUND Hotels properties in cities like Miami Beach, Chicago, and San Francisco), it’s the brand where the 1-credit exception actually matters for most Bonvoy members. City Express and Protea, by contrast, operate mainly in Latin America and Africa, outside the regions that qualify for the higher rate.

Marriott Executive Apartments runs on a different formula entirely (1 credit per 3 nights) and isn’t affected by this change at all.

Points Earning Follows the Same Split

The regional divide isn’t limited to Elite Night Credit. Base Points earning at Series by Marriott follows an identical pattern:

So a Series stay in Chicago earns both full Elite Night Credit and the standard 10x points rate most Marriott brands offer, while the same length stay at a Series property in, say, India earns half of both.

Worked Example

Say you book 4 nights at a Series by Marriott property:

• In Miami or Chicago: 4 nights x 1 credit = 4 Elite Night Credits, plus 10 points per dollar spent.
• Outside the U.S., Canada, or Greater China: 4 nights x 0.5 credit = 2 Elite Night Credits, plus 5 points per dollar spent.

Same brand, same length of stay, half the Elite Night Credit and half the points, purely based on where the hotel sits on the map.

What This Means for Your Status
