American Airlines and Citi have a new credit card: the Citi / AAdvantage Globe Mastercard. It’s kind of a middle-ground option, falling between their Platinum Select and Executive cards.

Right now, they’re offering a sign-up bonus of 90,000 AAdvantage miles if you spend $5,000 in the first 4 months. The card has some cool perks too: You get 4 Admirals Club day passes each year, a $99 domestic Companion Certificate starting in the second year, and a Flight Streak bonus that can give you up to 15,000 Loyalty Points (LP) per year towards your status. The annual fee is $350.

Offer in Detail & Key Benefits

Welcome bonus

For a short time, the Citi / AAdvantage Globe Mastercard is giving away 90,000 AAdvantage miles if you spend $5,000 in the first four months. The card costs $350 each year. This big bonus can get you some sweet premium partner awards if you plan it right. I’m talking about flying business class to Europe or Asia when you can find available seats.

Redemption math: What can 90k do?

Japan Airlines business class suite

  • Qatar Airways Qsuite one-way business to the Middle East/India often 70k–75k via AA partners.
  • Japan Airlines business to Japan from the West Coast can be 60k; First can be more when available.
  • Etihad A380 First “Apartment” to Europe via partner awards when space opens.

(Inventory ebbs and flows, but AA partner awards remain among the most valuable uses of AAdvantage miles.) For perspective, OMAAT pegs AA miles at ~1.5¢ each.

Earning & Status Progress

This card gets you 6x miles on AAdvantage Hotels bookings. You also get 3x miles on American Airlines purchases, 2x at restaurants and on taxis, rideshares, and public transit. You will get 1x on everything else. Each mile you earn counts as a Loyalty Point (LP) toward elite status. The Flight Streak thing gives you 5,000 LP after every four (4) American Airlines flights, up to 15,000 LP each year (March–February). This is a nice boost if you’re trying to get Gold or Platinum status.

Travel Perks & Credits

Globe is good if you use lounges sometimes. You get four (4) Admirals Club passes each year. You can use these at about 50 lounges when you want a quiet space or to relax before a flight. You can avoid baggage fees because you get a free checked bag and priority boarding for you and up to eight (8) people on your trip. The card also helps with travel costs.

You get a $120 statement credit every four years for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck. Plus, you get three credits: $100 for American Airlines inflight purchases, $240 for Turo car rentals (you have to activate this at turo.com/globe), and a $100 credit for certain brands. After the first year, you also get a $99 Companion Certificate for a round-trip Main Cabin ticket in the US (you still have to pay taxes/fees). This can help cover the annual fee if you take one or two trips.

Protections & fees

If you travel internationally, you’ll like that there are no foreign transaction fees. You also get travel protections like trip delay/cancellation coverage, baggage coverage, car rental protection, and purchase protection. This gives you peace of mind. Read the card’s guide and terms to see all the details about what’s covered. Make sure you understand this before you count on it.

Who Should Get Globe?

Choose Globe if you want occasional lounge access without the Executive’s price, care about elite progress, and value the Companion Certificate from year 2. The $350 AF can be offset by using 2–3 lounge passes, Turo credits, an inflight credit, and the Splurge Credit—plus the launch 90k bonus puts many AA partner sweet spots (Qatar Qsuites, Etihad F, JL/CX/J) within reach.

Pick Executive if you prioritize unlimited lounge access (member + household benefits) and LP milestone boosts; stick with Platinum Select if you want a lower AF and fewer perks.

Fine Print Highlights To Know Before You Apply

  • Admirals Club Globe Passes are day passes, issued on a calendar-year basis for nearly 50 lounges; usage rules apply.
  • Companion Certificate: appears after your first renewal (year 2 and beyond); valid for one domestic round-trip Main Cabin at $99 + taxes/fees; allow 8–10 weeks to post.
  • Flight Streak bonus: AA status year runs Mar–Feb; cap 15k LP per year; segments must be eligible AA flights.
  • Credits require activation/links where noted (e.g., Turo.com/globe). Terms can change; see issuer T&Cs.

Verdict

Globe hits a sweet middle lane: real airport lounge value (4 passes) and elite acceleration (Flight Streak + LP from spend) without the Executive fee. If you fly AA a handful of times per year, can use the credits, and value the companion cert from year 2, the $350 can pencil out quickly — especially with the 90k launch bonus. Heavy lounge users, though, still belong with Executive.
