IHG One Rewards has launched a new airline-miles promo for members who prefer AAdvantage miles over hotel points. Through July 6, 2026, registered members can earn 3X American Airlines AAdvantage miles per $1 spent on eligible paid stays booked under this offer. The promotion applies only to new bookings, requires registration, and has no limits on the number of bonus miles that can be earned.
The main catch is that this is not a stack-on-top-of-points offer. To participate, you need to change your IHG earning preference from IHG points to American Airlines AAdvantage miles before booking.
This promotion does not include “free bonus miles in addition to regular IHG points.” You must choose between two options:
- earn IHG points
- or earn AAdvantage miles.
How the Offer Works
The promo is fairly simple:

- switch your earning preference to AAdvantage miles in your IHG account,

You earn three times as many AAdvantage miles for every dollar spent at participating IHG hotels. Typically, members who choose to earn AAdvantage miles instead of IHG points earn two miles per dollar at most IHG-branded hotels, while Candlewood Suites and Staybridge Suites hotels typically award one mile per dollar.
Is It a Good Deal?
This is a decent offer for travelers who already value AAdvantage miles more than IHG points and have a paid IHG stay coming up soon. The promotion is especially straightforward because it works on stays of just one night or more, instead of requiring a longer minimum stay. It is also more attractive than the usual airline-mile setup at IHG because the promo boosts earnings above the normal 1X or 2X structure.
The downside is obvious: if you usually get better value from IHG points, this may not be the right move. Since you must switch your earning preference away from IHG points, the offer is best for travelers who are actively building an AAdvantage balance and do not mind giving up hotel points on these stays.
