American Airlines is bringing back its “Ready, set, jet” deal to start off the 2026 AAdvantage year. The deal is simple: sign up, book flights that qualify, and get extra Loyalty Points (LP) for trips taken by April 30, 2026. You can get up to 5,000 bonus LP.

This isn’t a free-mile offer. It helps you get status faster. It’s good if you want to get a head start on elite status or reach Loyalty Point Reward levels sooner. But don’t book flights just to get the bonus if you don’t need them.

What You Actually Get

The basic bonus: 500 Loyalty Points for each flight

Once you sign up, you’ll get 500 extra Loyalty Points for each flight you take that fits the deal, up to a total of 5,000 bonus LP.

Since it’s for each flight , trips with connections can earn more bonus LP than direct flights, until you hit the limit. For example, flying from Boston to Miami to Cancun gets you 500 + 1,000 = 1,500 bonus LP for a one-way trip.

Extra boosts: Get 1,000 bonus LP for some flights

AA says that in some cases, the bonus goes up to 1,000 per flight , such as:

  • Flights that leave from or arrive at certain airports in Mexico and the Caribbean (AA calls these select beach destinations).
  • Flights booked by business travelers using AAdvantage Business or some Corporate/Accredited Representative Tickets (CART).

If you’re already going to Mexico or the Caribbean this spring, or if you book work trips through a business program, this deal can help you earn points faster.

The important rules (gotchas):

  • You have to sign up, and when you do it matters (flights booked before you signed up usually won’t count. You need to sign up before you book or put a flight on hold)
  • AA says you need to sign up in your AAdvantage account and then book your flights. Your trip must be over by April 30.

In other words, sign up first, then book. If you already booked a flight, you might have to book it again after signing up, if it’s allowed and the price makes sense.

Basic Terms and Conditions

  • Basic Economy flights don’t count
  • Only flights sold and flown by AA/AA Eagle count. Flights with partner airlines don’t count.
  • You don’t get extra miles to spend, only points that help you get status.
  • The bonus LP should show up after your trip. AA says it can take up to 14 days after your flight to appear in your account.

When It’s Really Helpful

This offer is best suited for you if you:

  • You’re trying to get Gold/Platinum/Platinum Pro and want to start earning points early in the new year. Even if you only get 5,000 LP, it can still help. 5,000 LP is 12.5% of the way to Gold (40,000 LP).
  • You fly a lot of short flights (like for work in your region). This is one of the few LP deals where short trips can be worth it because you get points for each flight .
  • You’re going to Mexico or the Caribbean anyway, and your trip gets you the 1,000 LP bonus. Those points can add up faster than the basic 500 LP.

Conclusion

“Ready, set, jet” is a good thing to have if you’re already flying American by April 30 and you care about status. It’s simple, it adds to the LP you normally earn, and it can get you closer to the next level.

But it’s also meant to make you book flights soon. You have to sign up before booking, Basic Economy doesn’t count, and partner airlines don’t count. If you already planned your spring trips and it would cost a lot to rebook them, the deal probably isn’t worth it.
