Citi and American Airlines announced refreshed terms for two of their cobranded cards on October 27, 2026, and quietly added a new benefit to a third card two days earlier. Here’s what’s changing, when, and what it means if you already hold one of these cards.
The Fee Increase: Platinum Select and Business, $99 → $150
Effective January 24, 2027, the annual fee on both the Citi / AAdvantage Platinum Select and Citi AAdvantage Business World Elite Mastercard rises from $99 to $150. Two things worth knowing about the timing:
- Existing cardholders don’t get charged $150 on January 24 itself — the new fee applies at your first renewal on or after that date, not retroactively mid-cycle.
- New applicants still get the first year free. The $0 introductory annual fee is unchanged; you just pay $150 instead of $99 starting in year two.
What Both Cards Get in Return
The fee hike comes with a shared package of new benefits landing on both cards the same day:
- 3X miles on eligible AAdvantage Hotels and AAdvantage Cars bookings (new category on both cards).
- Up to $100/year in statement credits for inflight Wi-Fi, food, and beverage purchases — replacing the old 25% discount on those same purchases.
- Up to $120 every four years toward Global Entry or TSA PreCheck application fees.
- Expanded travel protections: trip delay, trip cancellation/interruption, rental car insurance, and lost/damaged baggage coverage.
Platinum Select Also Gets
- 2X miles on select streaming services, and on eligible rideshare and rail purchases.
- EV charging added to the existing 2X gas station category.
- A complimentary Walmart+ membership.
- 50% off a FOX One subscription.
- Its anniversary flight discount (after $20,000 in card spend during the cardmember year) rises from $125 to $150.
Don’t confuse that flight discount with the Business card’s $99 companion certificate (a $30,000-spend benefit) — they’re different perks on different cards, and it’s an easy mix-up since both are anniversary rewards tied to a big annual-spend threshold.
The Business Card Also Gets
- A selectable, uncapped 2X category — choose between U.S. shipping providers, office supply stores, or U.S. advertising services, and change your choice quarterly.
- 25% off a Melio subscription plan (Melio is a business bill-pay platform).
Separately: the Executive Card Gets a $200 Dining Credit
Two days before the fee announcement, on October 25, 2026, Citi added a new benefit to the $695-fee AAdvantage Executive card: up to $200 a year in inKind dining credits, split into two $100 halves — one for January–June, one for July–December. To use it, add the card as a payment method in the inKind app, dine at one of its roughly 11,000 participating restaurants, and select the credit when you pay through the app. It doesn’t apply automatically just by swiping the card in person. The Executive card’s $695 fee itself isn’t changing — this credit simply chips away at it further.
Why This Matters
A $51 fee increase on two of American’s higher-volume cobranded cards is a real cost that existing cardholders will absorb at their next renewal after January 24, 2027 — not something to discover by surprise on a statement. Whether the new benefits offset it depends entirely on which ones you’d actually use: the $100 inflight credit and Global Entry credit alone cover nearly $220 of value if you’d use both, which clears the new $150 fee on their own for frequent flyers. If you’d use none of the new perks, the math is simply worse than it was under the $99 fee.
