American Express has confirmed a real devaluation to one of the Platinum Card’s marquee perks: starting January 1, 2027, bookings through Fine Hotels + Resorts (FHR) will need a two-night minimum stay to count toward the card’s $600 annual Lodging Credit. Right now, a single FHR night qualifies. Amex’s own benefits page confirms the change directly, so this is no longer a rumor.
What’s Actually Changing
The credit is structured as up to $300 back in statement credits twice a year, for a total of $600 annually, on prepaid Fine Hotels + Resorts and The Hotel Collection bookings made through American Express Travel. Starting January 1, 2027, an FHR booking has to be at least two nights to trigger that credit — matching the two-night minimum that already applied to The Hotel Collection.
The other FHR perks aren’t going anywhere: you still get daily breakfast for two, a property credit (typically $100), and guaranteed 4 p.m. late checkout on a one-night stay. It’s specifically the statement credit eligibility that now requires the extra night.
This first surfaced as test-site language spotted by card-deal forums in mid-October, then was confirmed directly by Amex to Thrifty Traveler on October 22. As of this week, Amex’s own Lodging Credit page states the two-night FHR requirement outright.
The Airbnb Luxe Rename: Also Now Confirmed
A second piece of this story was still an unconfirmed leak as of a few days ago: that Amex would broaden the credit beyond hotels, rebrand it the “Lodging Credit,” and extend it to prepaid Airbnb Luxe stays. That part is now confirmed too — Amex’s own benefits page lists prepaid Airbnb Luxe bookings made through Amex Travel as eligible for the same semi-annual credit, also subject to the two-night minimum.
One more piece of the original leak — a separate $250 Airbnb Experiences credit — is still not confirmed on Amex’s own page. Doctor of Credit reports it as confirmed, but without pointing to a direct Amex source for that specific credit (only for the FHR and Airbnb Luxe changes). Treat the Experiences credit as likely but not yet verified until Amex’s terms explicitly list it.
Why It Matters
One-night FHR stays have long been a go-to strategy for capturing the $600 credit with minimal travel commitment — book one night, get breakfast, a property credit, late checkout, and the statement credit itself. Starting in 2027, that strategy stops working: you’ll need to commit to two nights just to keep the credit eligible, even though the other one-night perks remain intact. For cardholders who travel for short trips or don’t always want to add an extra night, this meaningfully raises the bar to realize $600 a year in value from the card.
It also fits a broader pattern this year of Amex tightening how easily Platinum cardholders can actually use the card’s advertised credits — see our coverage of Platinum members losing Lufthansa lounge access as another recent trim. If you’re weighing the Platinum against alternatives, our Delta Reserve vs. Amex Platinum comparison is worth a look given how the credit math keeps shifting.
What This Doesn’t Affect
- The change only applies to Fine Hotels + Resorts bookings starting January 1, 2027 — The Hotel Collection already required two nights, so nothing changes there.
- One-night FHR perks other than the statement credit (breakfast, property credit, late checkout) are unaffected.
- Your second-half 2026 credit isn’t subject to the new rule yet — some reporting suggests a one-night stay booked now, even for 2027 travel, may still lock in under the current terms, though this detail comes from secondary sources rather than Amex directly. Confirm with Amex before relying on it.

No. Those perks are unaffected and remain available on one-night Fine Hotels + Resorts bookings. Only eligibility for the $600 statement credit now requires two nights. It is reported by some outlets as confirmed, but as of this writing American Express's own Lodging Credit page does not mention it. Only the Fine Hotels + Resorts two-night rule and the Airbnb Luxe inclusion are confirmed directly by Amex. Yes. Amex's benefits page confirms prepaid Airbnb Luxe stays booked through Amex Travel are eligible for the same semi-annual credit, also subject to a two-night minimum. Yes, but that is not a new change -- The Hotel Collection has required a two-night minimum stay for the credit all along. The new rule only changes Fine Hotels + Resorts, which previously allowed one-night qualifying stays. When does the two-night FHR minimum take effect?
